According to the Smithsonian, early traditions of Thanksgiving have been established, it was in 1789, Elias Boudinot, a Massachusetts, member of the House of Representatives had placed on the floor a resolution that a day of Thanksgiving be held to thank GOD for having the opportunity to create a constitution to have the freedoms that were won during wars. President George Washington approved and proclaimed on October 3, 1789, that a day of public Thanksgiving and Prayer be observed on November Thursday 26th.
Thru many presidents, the day was either proclaimed or denied due to church and state separation. A woman by the name of Sarah Josepha Hale who was an editor of Ladies Magazine and Godey’s Lady’s Book began a campaign and began printing articles in the magazines and books. She wrote letters to the Governors, Senators and Presidents. It took 36 years to finally get President Abraham Lincoln to issue a proclamation to be observed every year on the fourth Thursday of November.
Today we need to remember those who gave their lives, so that we have our rights to live free. Give thanks to GOD allowing the constitution to have been written and followed that we may remain free.
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. – Philippians 4:6.
1 Thessalonians 5:18 … “Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”.
